5. Contract signed by Jimi Hendrix : $200,000

In 1970, Jimi a legendary singer and guitarist died at a young age of 27, and his sudden death remains covered in controversy and mystery to this day. In the year 2009, Jimi’s earliest signed contract fetched a whopping $200,000; this was the highest amount ever paid for a contract . The contract was Signed on 15th Oct in 1965 between the legend and PPX Enterprises Inc. This document showed that the icon was a beneficiary of the biggest rip off of that century.

 

4. Baseball signed by Babe Ruth : $388,375

It is commonly referred to as “The Bambino.” Babe Ruth’s autograph is among the priciest in the sports world. In 1926, young Johnny Sylvester injured himself after he fell off from a horse. Johnny received a baseball that was signed by Babe Ruth which went on to become one of the priciest signed baseball in history, fetching a stunning $250,600 in Feb 2014.

 

 3. John Lennon’s Signed LP: $525,000

On Dec 8th 1980, John Lennon a famous singer left his house in New York City and was immediately approached by Mark Chapman, who requested him to sign his copy of John Lennon’s latest album Double Fantasy LP. About five hours later, when Lennon was returning to his house, Mark shot him in the back. Mark claimed that there was a voice telling him to shoot John. The signed copy of the album went on to be used as evidence in Mark’s trial. It is very ironical that when such apiece went under the hammer it fetched thousands of dollars. It was sold for $525,000 in 2003, an equivalent of about $700,000 today.

 

2. Emancipation Proclamation signed by Abraham Lincoln : $3.7 Million

In 1884, Abraham Lincoln signed 48 copies of the Emancipation Proclamation that were to be used for fundraising. Of all the 48 copies only 26 remain to date and most of them are displayed in museums and universities. One of the Emancipation copies was sold for $3.7million in 2010, the highest ever for an autograph. The copy which was previously owned by Bobby Kennedy was sold to an anonymous person.

 

1. Acts of Congress signed by George Washington : $9.8 Million

The valuable volume contains the US’s first president’s personally written copy of the Constitution, the first congress and Bill of Rights with his official signature clearly visible on some pages. The seller was  Christie’s New York and the buyer was Ann Bookout. She dropped a stunning $9,8 million for the document ending the bidding in less than five minutes.

 

Whenever a celebrity or famous individual writes a word on piece of paper with their own handwriting, there will be a number of people who are willing to lighten their pockets just to buy that piece of history.
