The Fast and The Furious was the first movie in a franchise that now has over 7 films to its name. All 7 films exhibit a street racing car theme, a theme set by the very first film in the franchise. The subsequent film is set in different parts of the world and portray street racing as a popular but illegal activity. The first film, The Fast and The Furious, and the second film, 2 Fast 2 Furious, are set in the US. The third film is set in Japan and is distinct for having a completely different cast from the rest of the films in the franchise. The fourth film is set first in the Dominican Republic, then Brazil and finally in the US and is a worthy testament to the unprecedented success of the previous films.
In The Fast and The Furious, Paul Walker plays an undercover L.A.P.D officer Brian O’Conner. Brian has been assigned to find those responsible for a hijacking of a semi-truck loaded with electronic goods. The hijacking had been carried out by men in three Honda Civics heavily modified for racing. Brian’s cover is therefore that of an aftermarket parts dealer which allows him to infiltrate the local illegal street racing scene. In his investigation the Brian gets into contact with a racing crew lead by Dominic Toretto which ends up being the gang responsible for the semi-truck high jacking. In order to infiltrate the gang, Brian challenges the Dominic to a street race. The two race with Brian driving a Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX and Dominic in a Mazda RX-7. Brian loses to Dominic after pushing his Mitsubishi too hard which causes the engine to fail. Having lost the race Brian ends up owing Dominic a 10 second car.
After the race Brian saves Dominic from arrest which enables him to gain Dominic’s trust. On the way back to Dominic’s safe house, the two meet two of Dominic’s rivals, Hector and Tran. Brian initially unaware of the true culprits, suspects Tran of the high jack and which causes him to organize a raid on him. However the failure of the raid helps him to realize Dominic’s involvement in the crime. Brian tries to prevent Dominic’s crew’s attempt at a second hijacking. The movie ends at a climax which with a high speed chase between the two and police cars behind them. However Brian lets Dominic escape in his own racing car, thereby coming clean on his debt. The Fast and The Furious is definitely an unforgettable action packed film to the least. The second movie in the installment, 2 Fast 2 Furious, does not fail in being a fast-paced, action packed sequel to the first installment.

In the movie, 2 Fast 2 furious, Paul Walker is cast in the same role of Brian O’Conner who no longer works for the law. In this setting Brian is living in Miami as a street race car driver known by the street name Bullitt’. After winning a race organized by another street race by the name of Tej played by Ludacris, Brian is arrested by the U.S. Customs service. His former boss forces him to be part of a taskforce that is trying to bring down a notorious drug baron by the name of Cart Verone. This causes Brian to enlist the help of his juvenile friend and ex-convict Roman Pearce. The role of Roman Pearce is played by Tyrese Gibson. The two are then invited to an `audition’ race for a job on Verone’s money laundering run. The two win the race and therefore get the job. However on finding out that both he and Roman would be killed after making the drop-off, Brian and Roman switch cars. They then set up a decoy which for the police using two drivers in their original cars, while they themselves proceed to make the drop. After making the drop however Verone still orders for them to be killed. The movie ends with Brian and Roman making a daring jump onto Verone’s in a racing car, culminating in a final struggle in which Verone is killed. Brian and Roman end up with some of Verome’s drug money stashed away.
The third movie in the franchise casts a completely different set of actor from the first two movies while still retaining the same fast paced racing car theme. The plot in the fourth installment in the franchise is longer than the first three films which gives it a more than 2 hour running time. Apart from the introduction of wrestler Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) in fast and furious 5, the movie theme doesn’t change much. However the ability of the movies in the franchise to keep audiences on the edge of their seats is unmatched. The greatest irony concerning Paul Walkers role in the Fast and Furious franchise is the fact that he died in a car while he himself was an avid car enthusiast. On November 30, 2013, Paul Walker met his death in a Porsche Carrera GT which crashed into a tree at 160mph.
